The Village Square Leisure Centre is a multipurpose recreational facility owned and operated by the City of Calgary. Constructed from 1999 to 2001, the Village Square Leisure Centre is a 5.5-acre indoor facility within Calgary’s Pineridge community.
The leisure centre includes an aquatic centre with four pools, several gyms, and a track and field area. It is one of Canada’s largest indoor recreation venues and features a two-level fitness training facility encompassing 83,000 square feet. Besides, the leisure centre has a basketball court, a fitness/weight room and a daycare with indoor swimming pools.
The leisure centre connects to the high school’s main building via an elevated skywalk, one of only two such walkways designed for pedestrian use in Canada. The Village Square Leisure Centre is open 6 am – 10 pm from Monday – Friday, while the operational hours are from 8 am – 6 pm on Sunday. Transit Passes for Village Square are available across the library on the west side of the building.
The wave pool will begin with ground level entry from the ramp connected to the main building. The pool measures six lanes X 25 yards, with 1 foot deep at the shallow end gradually sloping to 6 feet deep at the deep end. There are two diving boards, one 8’6″ platform and a 9′ platform. The pool opens on weekdays from noon to 6 pm and at weekends from 10 am-6 pm.
The Safari Splash Zone is a water park for kids featuring a 500-gallon dump bucket, rope bridges, spray guns and other splash stations. Visitors of all ages can play in the water, which is kept at 45 degrees F (7 C) all year round.
The Water Park includes two giant slides and two smaller ones, plus an amazing Lazy River, Snorkel Lagoon, wave machine, and the Tropical Island. Water slides like the famous Thunder Run and Hi-5 giant slide are a great place to have fun with your family and friends.
Two large gymnasiums separate into smaller areas. Gym 1 and 2 are each 45′ x 75′ with a 6’3″ clearance. Gym 1 has four retractable tennis courts and two badminton courts. Gym 2 has retractable bleachers for basketball or volleyball courts and two full-sized half-courts for badminton or basketball.
The Village Square Library includes books, e-books and periodicals covering all subject areas. The library offers a quiet study room with settlement services booked for anyone needing to study alone. You can get access to after-hours material shelves and a return pass. This library room is open Monday-Saturday.
Village Square Leisure Centre is a provider of primary care services, postpartum services for women’s health, and specialized experience in several health areas. Calgary’s Leisure Centre believes you should make that connection as comfortable, convenient, and comprehensive as possible. Prompt services are available in medical clinics here.
It has two artificial ice arenas (185′ x 85′), used for curling, figure skating and hockey. A large fireplace near the second arena keeps spectators warm. The first arena makes excellent use of the space available, including an observation deck above and a large fireplace/heater near one side. The second arena is walled off from the rest of the facility by some extra rooms and a lobby.
For the convenience of patrons, it offers a variety of rental items. Village Square Leisure Centre is a great place to rent equipment for your next event. So, whether you need to borrow badminton rackets for the game or basketballs, we have you covered. If you need to rent baby floats, swimsuits, or any other party items, don’t let your next event go flat.
There are many locker rooms for men and women with full-size lockers around the perimeter. The open space also features a full-size shower area and baby changing stations.
