Your Step-by-step Guide To Repair a Cracked Windshield

A cracked windshield can be a real pain. Thankfully, windshield crack repair kits are available in the auto parts shops. You shouldn’t have to fill just cracks, but chips and any other visible flaw as well. The repair process is simple and straightforward. Just follow these steps to quickly repair a cracked windshield:

1. The chip has an adhesive filled, and if you apply the precut patch to one side of the glass, there would be a visible line. To fix this, peel off a small part of a second precut patch and press on top of the first. Repeat until you have covered the entire chip. Then all you need to do is remove the top film and inspect your work.
2. Clean and check around your wipers for debris to remove before proceeding. Remove the film of adhesive without touching the edge. Use an applicator, wipe glue from the edge of films with a lint-free, clean cloth. Attach the applicator syringe to the adapter.
3. Hold the syringe body to stabilize it and pull its handle out for a minute. It will pull a partial vacuum out of the crack and bubble up the air in the gap.
4. Then use an air gun to drive off an adhesive sheet. The resulting hole in your windshield is sealed with tape, immobilizing the air even further.
5. Use alcohol-dampened paper towels to shave off the leftover excess adhesive. Alcohol dries the glue onto which is then used as a sharp razor blade to remove the cut edge.
6. After an hour, you’ll seal the inside of the windshield with an epoxy-like material and then use a putty filler to fill in any holes between the crack and the glass. After this process, you’ll have a windshield that’s as good as new.
